Gum disease, treated without a scalpel.
The LANAP® protocol is the first and only laser gum treatment with FDA clearance for true periodontal regeneration — new bone, new ligament, new attachment — confirmed by human histology, not just clinical impression.
What LANAP® treats, and why it's different.

Moderate to severe gum disease breaks down the bone and ligament holding teeth in place. The conventional fix is osseous surgery: cutting back the gum tissue to access and reshape the bone underneath, then suturing it closed.
LANAP® reaches the same diseased pockets with the PerioLase® MVP-7™, a specialized Nd:YAG laser tuned to a wavelength that clears bacteria and diseased tissue while leaving healthy gum tissue untouched — no incisions, no sutures.
It's the difference between regeneration and repair: the histologic studies behind the FDA clearance show new cementum, new periodontal ligament, and new bone forming on root surfaces that were previously diseased.

This narrated animation walks through the LANAP® protocol step by step — useful to watch before your consultation.
A precise, six-step sequence.

- 01Measure the pocketsA periodontal probe checks how far the gum has detached from the tooth, mapping the depth of disease before any laser is used.
- 02Clear the infectionThe PerioLase® fiber — about the width of three human hairs — passes along the pocket wall, removing bacteria and diseased tissue while leaving healthy tissue intact.
- 03Remove tartarAn ultrasonic scaler clears calcified tartar from the root surface beneath the gumline.
- 04Shape the boneWhere needed, the bone is gently reshaped to remove pockets where bacteria could collect again.
- 05Seal & stabilizeA final laser pass forms a stable blood clot from the patient's own blood — rich in stem cells and growth factors — sealing the pocket closed without stitches.
- 06Bite adjustment & healingThe bite is checked and adjusted to protect the healing site while new bone and tissue regenerate over the following weeks.
Why patients choose it over traditional surgery.

- Recovery
Minimally invasive, so most patients return to normal activity — including work — the same day.
- Comfort
No cutting or sutures means significantly less post-operative pain and swelling than osseous surgery.
- Gum Line
Because tissue isn't cut away, patients see little to no gum recession after treatment.
- Regeneration
Human histology confirms new bone and ligament formation — not just symptom control.
- Saves Teeth
Teeth once considered hopeless under conventional treatment can often be preserved.
- Acceptance
Patients accept LANAP® far more often than traditional osseous surgery, largely due to the reduced fear of cutting and stitches.
Is LANAP® right for you?

LANAP® is an option worth discussing if you've been diagnosed with moderate to severe gum disease, told you need osseous surgery, or have a tooth labeled "hopeless" under conventional treatment.
Because no cutting is involved, patients on blood thinners such as Plavix or aspirin, and patients managing conditions like diabetes or hemophilia, are frequently good candidates — there's no need to pause those medications beforehand.
